In early August, Samsung launched the One UI 5 beta program
based on Android 13 for the Galaxy S22 series. Since then, the Korean giant has
expanded public testing to include more of its devices, including the Galaxy
S21 series and, surprisingly, even the mid-range Galaxy A52. Joining the bandwagon
is now Samsung's 2020 flagship, the Galaxy S20 series.
One UI 5 beta is currently available for the Galaxy S20
lineup in Samsung's home market. Given how aggressively the company has
expanded the program, it should be available in more countries sooner rather
than later. SamMobile reports that Samsung is only accepting registrations from
users interested in testing the beta, and the firmware is not yet available for
download. However, you should join the program now as places are limited and
usually fill up quickly.
While the entire S20 line is eligible for the beta, Samsung
has not opened the program for the Galaxy S20 BTS edition. These phones have
the same internal hardware as the standard variant, so it's unclear why they
can't join the program.
If you live in South Korea and own a Galaxy S20, please
follow our guide on how to install the One UI 5 beta on your Samsung phone to
join the program. You do not need to create a backup of your data on the
device. But if you decide to quit the program halfway, your phone will be
formatted which will lead to data loss. And remember that you will be
installing beta firmware, so be prepared for stability issues and various bugs.
The fast pace of Samsung's testing indicates that One UI 5 is getting closer to public release. The Galaxy S22 series is expected to be the first to receive the stable update, followed by other devices. Rumors suggest that the public One UI 5 version of the Galaxy S22 should be available in October, with the other devices receiving the update in November.
