The leak floodgates for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23
family opened yesterday with renders of the Galaxy S23 and S23+. Today, it is
the missing member who is in the spotlight, we are of course talking about the
Galaxy S23 Ultra.
It turns out that Samsung's most premium non-folding device
for next year will end up looking like its predecessor. Seriously, it's almost
impossible to tell just by looking at these renders that it's not the S22
Ultra.
However, that's all. These are all the obvious differences
between the two, and let's face it, they're anything but obvious unless you
look very closely. The S23 Ultra will measure 163.4 x 78.1 x 8.8mm, compared to
the S22 Ultra's 163.3 x 77.9 x 8.9mm.
With the Galaxy S23 and S23+ also taking on the split-camera
island look, next year's high-end members of the Samsung family will finally
look like they're part of the same family. For better or worse, that's to say
they look like many A-series models as well. That clearly helps cement this as
Samsung's design language.
On the other hand, having a device over $1,200 that shares a
design language with a $200 device from the same brand is...an interesting
stylistic choice, shall we say. It definitely sacrifices high-end exclusivity
for easier global recognition. Whether the trade-off is worth it is anyone's
guess at this point.
Some rumors say that the Galaxy S23 family will be announced
a few weeks before the S22 models, which means we could see a presentation in
January. Based on the leaks recently, we will definitely know a lot more about
the S23 trio long before that.
